Jesus described His followers as the salt of the earth. Salt preserves, adds flavour, and influences whatever it comes into contact with. In the same way, believers are called to exercise a godly influence in a world increasingly affected by sin and moral corruption. However, Jesus also warned that salt can lose its savour. When Christians abandon holiness, compromise biblical truth, and conform to the sinful practices of the world, they lose their spiritual distinctiveness and weaken their testimony. We cannot effectively influence the world for righteousness if we continually imitate its ungodly ways. Our conduct, speech, relationships, and decisions should demonstrate the transforming power of the Gospel. We must stand for truth without compromising our Christian character. As we await the return of Christ, let us preserve our spiritual savour and remain faithful witnesses of His righteousness in this generation. Scriptural Readings for the Day Matthew 5:13 (KJV) “Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.” Colossians 4:6 (KJV) “Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.” Philippians 2:15 (KJV) “That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;” Prayer Heavenly Father, help me never to lose my spiritual savour. Let my words, conduct, and character influence others toward righteousness. Give me grace to remain holy and faithful in this corrupt world, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
