God calls His children to live holy lives in a world filled with sin and ungodliness. Although believers live in the world, they must not allow its sinful values, practices, and desires to corrupt their hearts. Scripture commands us to keep ourselves unspotted from the world. Worldliness is not limited to outward appearances; it also includes pride, greed, immorality, dishonesty, ungodly entertainment, and the pursuit of sinful pleasures. When Christians continually imitate the ungodly lifestyles of the world, their spiritual distinctiveness gradually disappears. We must therefore guard what we watch, listen to, admire, and allow to influence our decisions. As we await the return of Jesus Christ, we must continually renew our minds through God’s Word and reject anything that draws us away from Him. True devotion to God requires us to love Him above the pleasures and attractions of this present world. Scriptural Readings for the Day James 1:27 (KJV) “Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.” 1 John 2:15 (KJV) “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.” Prayer Heavenly Father, keep my heart from the sinful influences of this world. Help me to reject ungodliness and live a holy life that pleases You. Renew my mind through Your Word and keep me spiritually pure until Christ returns, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
